You brought up something I hadn't considered. Aside from atheists, there are some religious beliefs that don't believe in an afterlife. It's my understanding that Jews don't believe in heaven or hell and surely those who believe in reincarnation don't believe their dead are "at peace". Thank you for your comment. I am an atheist and so I look at the phrase "At least they're at peace now" with some amount of disdain. Of course no disrespect to you if you are religious, I'm not one to badger every believer into my way of thinking, but that's why I don't like platitudes either.
