PRESIDENT Barack Obama

Don’t you think it’s time the folks at CNN paid our new President some respect?

For eight long years we heard daily on the trials, tribulations, and antics of President George W. Bush. That’s right! Even in his darkest hours and with an abysmal approval rate, the news media consistently paid him his presidential due. They called him “President Bush”. Not so with President Obama. I am tired of hearing “Barack Obama” this and “Barack Obama” that.

The other day, one of CNN’s guests continually stressed the word “President” until finally his interviewer seemed to get the message. I suppose it was difficult for her to add that word in front of what she was reading on the teleprompter.

Everyone in the President’s administration, friend and acquaintance alike, addresses the President as Mr. President and refers to him as President Obama. They are highly aware that they serve at his pleasure. That’s the way it’s always been and IMHO the way it should be. Although the news media doesn’t “serve at the pleasure of the President” they should expect to treat him always with respect.

Barack Obama. The name is sort of poetic and easily trips off the tongue.

Just like many Americans, I find our new president to be a likable guy. Yet, he isn’t just “one of the boys” anymore. He is our President. President Barack Obama.
